Bishop of London speaks at City Hall Interfaith Remembrance Service
Earlier today, the Bishop of London gave the address at City Hall’s annual Interfaith Remembrance Service. He was joined by Mayor Sadiq Khan and the Sub-Dean of Southwark Cathedral, Canon Michael Rawson, who led the service to remember those British and Commonwealth soldiers killed or wounded fighting in the two world wars, as well as other more recent conflicts.
The service was also attended by representatives of the Armed Forces and Royal British Legion, along with many faith leaders from across the capital including Lord Singh CBE, (Network of Sikh Organisations), Rabbi Miriam Berger (Finchley Reform Synagogue), Harun Khan (Muslim Council of Britain) and Dr Deesha Chadha (Hindu Forum of Britain).
In his speech, the Bishop called on the country to learn from the wars of the past in order to help shape the future, saying that Londoners, whose city stands at a global and multicultural cross roads, have a responsibility not to let fear or suspicion of those from different cultures, or nations overwhelm our public debate as it did over a century ago when empires competed for power and prestige.
