400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death

The Bishop has preached at a service to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death attended by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, Patron of Shakespeare’s Globe. The services was a joint celebration between the Globe and Southwark Cathedral and was held in Shakespeare’s workplace parish of Southwark.

The specially curated service drew on extracts of Shakespeare’s four late plays – Pericles, Cymbeline, The Winter’s Tale and The Tempest – and included a performance by the Choir of Southwark Cathedral of a specially commissioned setting of Psalm 46 by Philip Moore.

The service was one of a number of events marking the anniversary, with activities in and around Shakespeare’s Globe including brand new short films of all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays being screened along the riverbank.
